According to the BBC, Dumfries and Galloway Council are being recommended to approve the proposals. If approved, the new district general hospital would be located on an area of land off the Garroch roundabout, at the western end of the bypass in the town.

The plans include a 350-bed complex, staff residences, a helipad and almost 1,000 parking spaces. Already, a new road layout for the development has been completed, while the preferred bidder for the contract has been named as High Wood Health.
While objections have been raised about the development, such as an increase in traffic, construction is due to begin on the project in Spring 2015 if the Council supports the plans. Acute services would then be transferred to the new site by early 2018.
