A new £2.8m Glassford Primary School has been approved by South Lanarkshire Council.

Currently, pupils at the school are using temporary accommodation next to Wester Overton Primary School in Strathaven after the existing building was demolished. Proposals for the new school include three classrooms, an activity and library area, a combined gym and dining hall, a MUGA pitch and a 12-space car park.


Councillor Hugh Dunsmuir, Chair of South Lanarkshire Council's Planning Committee, said: "This programme is one of the most ambitious in the country and has now transformed nursery and primary education in more than 100 school sites across South Lanarkshire.

"This means that around 20,000 children are learning in modern environments, fully equipped for the 21st Century.

"This plan before us marks the unstinting commitment to providing a schools estate which is second to none. I am delighted to offer this proposal the full support of this committee."
