Scottish Water has completed a £6m upgrade of the waste water infrastructure in Dalbettie.

As part of the project, the town's ageing waste water treatment works have been increased and enhanced so it can process waste water into the future. Using the latest technology, it will serve a larger number of customers and properties.

Project Manager Mark Keast said: "We have replaced, upgraded and demolished infrastructure on the Dalbeattie site to provide a 21st century waste water treatment works that will go on to serve future generations in the town.


"The River Urr is an important fishing and beauty spot. This project will help preserve the river and ensure that local people and visitors to the area can continue to enjoy it."

Bill Elliot, Scottish Water's Community Team Manager for Dumfries and Galloway, added: "The upgraded facility will be better equipped to protect the local environment and will ensure continued compliance with the regulations surrounding urban waste water treatment and fresh water fisheries.

"Amongst the improvements are upgraded treatment tanks, filters, pumps, pipework, a sample point for SEPA to monitor the works and demolition of redundant structures. We are grateful to the Dalbeattie community for their patience while we carried out this important project."
