A new affordable housing development has been officially opened in Forfar, Angus.

The £2.8m development at Newmonthill consists of 18 three-bedroom family townhouses. T.A. Kernoghan was the appointed contractor for the scheme, which also received £495,000 in grant funding from the Scottish Government.

As part of the project work, the original flats on the site were demolished, but many of the original foundations and retaining walls were reused, thereby reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill, and reduce the carbon footprint of the construction process.

The properties have a high quality design to make the most of the surrounding views, as well as maximising light and solar gain, while sprinklers and high levels of insulation have also been installed.

Councillor Donald Morrison, Angus Council's Convener of Communities, officially opened the development and said: "I am delighted to see completion of this outstanding development as it will play a major part in helping to re-shape this part of Forfar. It's also a great example of how our housing service is delivering on its vision to create places that people are proud to call home."
