Empty properties can cause problems for both the owner of the building as well as the wider community as they can attract criminal activity and anti-social behaviour. If the properties are empty for a lengthy period, they can also cause damage to adjacent buildings, as well as reduce the marketability of properties in the area.

To try and tackle the issue, the local authority is now preparing a draft Empty Homes Strategy, outlining how the council could assist homeowners.
The move comes after the council recently decided to introduce a Council Tax levy on long-term empty homes in the area.
However, before the council can follow through with any support, a consultation needs to be held regarding its draft strategy.
