Work is continuing to progress at Kirkcaldy Esplanade, where a multi-storey car park is being upgraded.

The two-level car park provides direct access to the Mercat Shopping Centre, and a total of £175,000 has been invested in the project. The work has involved installing new energy efficient lighting, painting walls and ceilings, new bright coloured surfacing, wider parking bays and new walkways for pedestrians.

It was part-funded by the council's Town Centre Development Fund for Kirkcaldy.

Visiting the site, Councillor Neil Crooks, Chair of the Kirkcaldy Area Committee, commented: "Improvements to town centre multi-storey parking was something that was raised at the Town Centre summit a few years ago. I'm very pleased that we're now making steps to address this through the first project to be delivered on from the Fund.

"Improving this facility is the first phase of a longer term aspiration to completely renovate the car park and is contributing to the wider efforts to encourage shoppers and visitors back into our town centre. Next up is improvements to the steps at Bell Inn Wynd, known as the 'Postings steps' when work will begin in January to replace the steps and handrails."
