Plans For Edinburgh Uni Accommodation Submitted

Plans for new student accommodation at the University of Edinburgh have been submitted to the local authority, it has been revealed.

The proposals, which have been submitted by JM Architects on behalf of the university, would see the postgraduate accommodation development consist of 138 rooms. Ancillary uses and amenity spaces would also be provided. The project would be delivered on a site on Meadow Lane, located off Buccleaugh Street in the city's Southside conservation area, the design plan has said. Currently, a row of garages and workshops occupy the site in question.


In its planning statement, JM Architects said: "Meadow Lane contains a number of mews cottages mostly under the ownership of the University and other properties. The cottages date to the development of Buccleuch Place and predate the development of Hope Park Square and Boroughloch Square to the South.

"The University's Masterplan proposes its withdrawal from Buccleuch Place properties and their release for residential use."

It continued: "An opportunity now exists to re-evaluate the nature and value of the Meadow Lane Cottages and their potential redevelopment to an urban scale more closely related to their neighbours.

"This development would promote the idea of a residential precinct with courtyard amenity space and suitable parking arrangements."
