Work to regenerate the town centre of Gourock, Inverclyde, is to begin.
The £5.2m scheme will see a number of improvements carried out in the area. The projects include creating a new public space along the waterfront, as well as building a facility to allow small craft to access the beach at Pierhead. Footpaths would also be replaced, while car parking facilities would be expanded; public spaces at each end of Kempock Street would also be transformed, the council has said.
It is understood preparatory work will begin later this year in order to allow each project to be phased in next year.
Regeneration firm Riverside Inverclyde is delivering the ambitious project, with RJ McLeod the appointed contractor.
Councillor Michael McCormick, Inverclyde Council's Environment and Regeneration Convener, said: "This is an historic day for Inverclyde and for the people of Gourock. It has been a lengthy process to bring all of the necessary licenses, permissions and land transfers together but we are finally in a position to begin.
"This project is a key priority for the council and an opportunity to enhance and regenerate one of the jewels in the crown of Inverclyde."
