A public consultation is to be held regarding the management of woodlands in Gatehouse of Fleet and Kirkcudbright, the local council has said.
In Gatehouse of Fleet, the local woodland areas in question are Garries Wood and Port McAdam Wood, while in Kirkcudbright it is Barhill Wood.
At the moment, Dumfries and Galloway Council are responsible for the management of the woodlands, but the local authority is now seeking possible alternatives to managing the areas.
As a result, the consultation will allow the local communities to share their thoughts as well as ask any questions in relation to the woodlands.
The events will take place next week.
On Monday 27 October, a drop-in session will be held at Kirkcudbright Town Hall from 2pm to 8pm. On Tuesday 28 October, from 2pm until 8pm, Gatehouse of Fleet Community Centre will host a session for the respective woodlands. Council officers will be in attendance on both days.
Colin Smyth, Chairman of the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, explained: "Management of our woodlands is an important issue and it is hoped that these woodlands are managed pro-actively and will continue to be a major part of community life.
"This public consultation allows members of the community to ask any questions they may have and will inform anyone who is interested in taking on the management, whether as a community interest or on a commercial basis."
