Construction work is due to begin on the Inveramsay Bridge "within weeks", according to reports.
The work will see a new overpass built to try and ease the bottleneck of traffic in the area.
The bridge is located over the A96 between Inverurie and Huntly.
Up to £10m will be spent on the project, with Balfour Beatty understood to have been awarded the contract. The works will see a new road constructed along the east side of the railway, with a new bridge erected over the tracks. This will remove the need for traffic lights and ultimately 'straighten' that section of road, and reduce the bottleneck.
Work on the scheme is expected to be completed by spring 2016.
