An ice rink in Stirling has been forced to temporarily close, it has been reported.

The facility, located at The PEAK at Stirling Sports Village, has been closed under advice from structural engineers.

In a statement, Stirling Council said the decision was made after minor cracks appeared in the ice rink wall had appeared. An investigation found that there was a structural weakness in the block work.

It is understood the rest of the facility will remain open as the upgrade work is carried out.

A council spokesperson said: "We have been notified by our contractor that the ice rink is facing some structural issues and must be closed for the next few weeks to ensure public safety.

"The contractors are working with Active Stirling and ourselves to resolve the situation as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are doing all we can to ensure the safety of the ice rink is restored as soon as possible."
