Denny town centre in Falkirk could be set to benefit from further funding of £1.4m.

Falkirk Council has confirmed it has submitted a bid for a Regeneration Capital Grant Fund (RCGF), a scheme jointly-led by the Scottish Government and local councils. It provides financial support for schemes that engage with the local community and deliver large-scale improvements to the area.

The funding can only be used between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016, so if the Council's bid was successful, work to restore and improve Denny town centre would not commence until next year.

However, construction work would also continue after the set deadline, meaning subsequent funding would have to come from the local authority or other resources.

Councillor Dennis Goldie, spokesperson for Economic Development, commented: "Regenerating town centres is a priority of the Council's Local Development Plan. Denny town centre fits the criteria of the RCGF and so it is well worth applying for. Regardless of the success of the bid, we will kick on with the regeneration project."

Falkirk Council will discover if its bid has been successful in November.
