Scottish Water is to hold an information event regarding the new water treatment works at Killylour.

The utility provider recently completed the project, which has been constructed alongside the former Killylour water treatment works. However, before the new facility can be put into full service, a testing programme has been carried out.

Through this process, Scottish Water identified that the new works is producing 8.5 mega litres of water a day, almost double of the old facility's production. The firm also discovered that in order to continue to provide the additional volume of water, a pre-treatment facility needs to be installed.

It is understood this facility will be housed in a separate building on the site.

A planning application will be submitted to the local authority, Dumfries and Galloway Council, in the next few months.

Commenting on the plans, Bill Elliot, Community Team Manager for Dumfries and Galloway, said: "We are currently finalising the design of this pre-treatment facility and will present these plans at a further information event in Shawhead before submitting to the planning authority for approval."
