RES, the renewable energy firm, has won its appeal against the rejection of plans for its proposed wind farm near Langholm.

The developer had planned to construct a 15-turbine wind farm at Solwaybank, close to Scotland's border with England, but the scheme was refused by Dumfries and Galloway Council due to "seismic" and "radar" concerns.

RES decided to appeal the decision and in a statement the company confirmed the objections had since been withdrawn. Their appeal was upheld by a Scottish Government reporter, allowing the development to go ahead.


Ruth Elder, Development Project Manager, is quoted as saying: "RES is delighted that consent has been granted for Solwaybank wind farm which will be capable of generating enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent average demand of more than 19,000 households.

"As well as providing homegrown, secure and affordable energy, onshore wind farms like Solwaybank contribute cleaner, greener energy – particularly important when the world's eyes are focusing on international efforts to urgently tackle the long-term threat of global climate change."
