Consultations On Housing Developments To Commence

Construction News Image
A number of public consultation events are set to commence in relation to a number of proposed affordable housing developments in Aberdeen.

Application notices have been submitted for five sites throughout the city and now the council wants to gather the public's opinion on the plans.

The local authority has previously said it will deliver 2,000 much-needed affordable homes. It is thought the council aims to build 1,026 of the homes on council-owned sites, while the remaining properties will be delivered by private housebuilders and registered social landlords.

The homes will be a mix of social rent, mid-market rent, shared equity/low-cost home ownership, and private sale; while the types of homes to be constructed, as well the number on each site, has yet to be decided.

The five sites where a proposal of application notice has been lodged are the former Tillydrone Primary School, the former St Machar Primary School, the former Aberdon Care Home, the former Craighill Primary School and the former Smithfield Primary School.

Council Leader Jenny Laing commented: "One of the main objectives in our long-term Strategic Infrastructure Plan, designed to make sure Aberdeen remains economically buoyant and a city we are proud to call home, is to deliver more affordable housing and we are leading this by using council land to deliver the homes this city so badly needs.

"The delivery of affordable housing will help not only to meet our housing demands, but also to address the skills gap the city is facing, as the provision of new and affordable housing will help to bring skilled workers, who are currently priced out of Aberdeen into the city.

"It is very important that everyone with a view on these plans, particularly those living in the communities where the new housing developments are proposed, gets involved in the consultation process and let us know their views."

The drop-in events will be held on:

• 24 September – 4pm to 9pm at Kincorth Academy

• 29 September – 4pm to 9pm at St George's Church, Tillydrone

• 01 October – 4pm to 9pm at Manor Park Primary School.
