Council Withholds Support For Sports Hub

Planning officers at Stirling Council have said they will not be supporting plans for a new sports hub and associated housing estate at Park of Kier.

The proposals had been put forward by Judy Murray, the mother of former Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, as well as professional golfer Colin Montgomerie.

Designed by Yeoman McAllister Architects, the sports hub would have consisted of a tennis and gold centre built on an area of green belt land between Dunblane and the Bridge of Allan. A 120-room hotel, a 'Murray Tennis Museum' and 100 homes were also planned for the development.

It is understood the sporting element of the plans were supported, but it was the residential aspect that caused the issue.

A principle planning officer at Stirling Council explained that it would not "meet any of the local or particular housing needs, and will in fact exacerbate affordability in the local area."

They added that there would also be a "significant detrimental impact" on the local environment as a result of the development.
