BAM Recommended For V&A Dundee

Construction News Image
BAM Construction has been recommended as the preferred bidder to build the V&A Museum of Design Dundee.

The Policy and Resources Committee for Dundee Council will be asked to appoint a main contractor for the project.

Next week, Councillors will hear that before a fixed price tender for the works is finalised, discussions with the preferred contractor will be held to establish the plans. This will involve the council entering into a pre-construction services agreement with the preferred contractor.

A tender report would then be submitted to the council, in due course, seeking agreement to the proposed construction cost for the project.

Philip Long, Director of V&A Dundee, said: "This is an important step for all of us in building the home of V&A Dundee, a world-class visitor attraction and flagship of the waterfront regeneration. BAM Construction has an excellent track record in the delivery of prestigious cultural projects in Scotland.

"V&A Dundee is very much here already of course. We have a dedicated team who are busy making an impact across the country, through a variety of community engagement and learning initiatives as well as bringing world-class exhibitions and leading international designers to Scotland. We are all delighted to see this next chapter in our story begin."

Councillor Ken Guild, the local authority's administration leader, added: "This is a major milestone in the project to provide a world-class building to house the V&A Museum of Design Dundee.

"Our city's profile is already benefiting from our association with the V&A and the breathtaking vision of Kengo Kuma's building. Dundee's ongoing and ambitious regeneration will reach another level when the construction phase begins.

"Our local partnership behind the initiative is working closely together to take the project forward as it is a hugely important investment in the future of our city."

Douglas Keillor, Regional Director for BAM Construction in Scotland, commented: "This is a project of international significance and it is great to hear that we have been recommended as the preferred main contractor. We keenly await the decision of Dundee City Council on Monday."
