More Turbines For Tidal Energy Scheme

A tidal energy project approved for construction last week is to have additional turbines installed, it has been reported.

Last week, Atlantis Resources said it was to start installing devices in the Pentland Firth. The project would take two years to complete, and initially four turbines were to be installed. However, it has now been claimed that six turbines will actually be erected after the firm negotiated a £7.5m contract for the additional two structures.

The funding will be provided by the UK's Energy Technologies Institute (ETI).

When completed, the six turbines could generate enough electricity for up to 4,500 homes.
