More than 50 homes in Whitfield, Dundee, could be set to benefit from home improvement measures.

Plans for the properties are to be discussed by the Council next week. If a tender for the works is approved, some £795,000 will be invested in the scheme. It will see properties in Whitfield and Murrayfield Gardens benefit from new wall insulation and other improvements. The homes, 56 in total, will receive wall insulation, outside bin stores removed, and the addition of a pressure ventilation system. External wall linings will also be replaced.

The initiative follows a pilot project in the area which saw homes upgraded to become more energy efficient.

John Alexander, Convener of Dundee City Council's Housing Committee, said: "Improved insulation not only makes people's houses warmer and easier to heat it cuts down on their energy bills.

"After the pilot project we were delighted to have tenants telling us what a significant difference it made to their standard of living and to their bills, so I am keen that we ensure as many people as possible in the area benefit from similar work."
