Turner & Townsend has reached a "significant milestone" in the £100m mixed-use development in Glasgow.
The firm has now handed over the first 200 homes of the Laurieston Transformational Regeneration Area to New Gorbals Housing Association. In a statement, Turner & Townsend said it was providing a Turnkey Service at Laurieston, as well as a full design team to carry out the design and delivery of the initial phase of the scheme's 800-housing development.
The company added that it will continue to provide Project Management, Cost Management and CDM Co-ordinator services for the masterplan, which will be delivered over a 20-year development programme.
David Hogg, Director at Turner & Townsend, commented: "Drawing on the technical skills gleaned from other major regeneration projects, we were able to develop an efficient delivery vehicle model for the Laurieston Area, and a procurement strategy which achieved optimal risk transfer. This has helped turn the masterplan into a sustainable live regeneration project that addresses both physical and community regeneration."
Baillie Elizabeth Cameron, Chair of 'Transforming Communities: Glasgow' and Glasgow City Council Executive Member for Business and the Economy, said: "We are committed to maximising opportunities and benefits for local people through an extensive planned investment programme for the Laurieston Area of Glasgow.
"In conjunction with Turner & Townsend, we are able to continue this commitment, and are responsible for the planning and inclusion of community benefit conditions within the development agreement for the Laurieston development."
Laurieston, which is located to the south of the River Clyde, is one of eight Transformational Regeneration Areas identified in Glasgow as priorities for redevelopment by Transforming Communities: Glasgow.
Transforming Communities: Glasgow is a partnership of Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government and Glasgow Housing Association.
