Thirty new homes are being built on a plot of land at the former St Patrick's Primary School in Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire.
The £3.8m project will see a mix of three, four and five-bedroom apartments, bungalows and houses constructed. Work on the development, known as Fisher Avenue, is scheduled for completion in spring 2015.
It is part of the local authority's £172m 'Building for the Future' initiative, which aims to deliver 1,150 new council homes through North Lanarkshire.
Wates, the affordable housing developer, is carrying out the project on behalf of the council, while the Scottish Government is contributing £900,000 towards the development costs of the scheme.
Councillor Sam Love said: "It is great to see the new homes being developed and we look forward to welcoming people into the properties next spring. This redevelopment is taking place in the heart of the community and will help to meet local housing needs.
"We'll continue to invest in new housing and maintain our support to the local economy through jobs and business."
Bill Coghill, Business Director for Wates, added: "This development demonstrates our ongoing partnership with the council to deliver high quality, new homes for the people of North Lanarkshire."
