A series of improvement works are to be carried out at Paisley Museum and Art Galleries.

The project will take place over a period of seven weeks and will include the installation of a new chair lift and stairway, which will help improve access to the facility for wheelchair users or those with restricted mobility. The initiative will cost £40,000, Renfrewshire Council has confirmed.

Commenting on the works, Councillor Jim Harte, Convener of Renfrewshire Council's Sport, Leisure and Culture Policy Board, said: "In recent months, the council has shown the importance we place on Renfrewshire's cultural and architectural heritage by putting it at the heart of our strategy to regenerate the area's economy and boost tourism.

"It is only fitting that we are carrying out work to let everyone experience one of Renfrewshire's most-loved attractions. Inevitably there will be some occasional inconvenience and noise as the work progresses but we'd ask people to bear with us.

"Generations of visitors have enjoyed the experience of visiting the exhibitions and displays. This work will give more people that same opportunity. It's already a big year for Paisley Museum and Art galleries with the continuing refurbishment of the adjoining Coats Observatory. That work will also be completed in September."

Paisley Museum and Art Galleries will remain open during the improvement works.
