ACHA Tenants Support Affordable Housing

Tenants of Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) has voiced its support for affordable housing in the area.

The support comes as ACHA confirms it met the Council's submissions deadline for a proposed housing development at the former Rockfield School site.

The Association's plans would involve the construction of 37 new homes on the land. Fifteen of these properties would be made available to the local authority for care of the elderly. Some £5m would be invested in the project over a period of two years, and 40 construction jobs would be created.

Andy Birnie, an ACHA tenant, is quoted as saying: "This site has been available for seven years. It's time it was used to meet the real needs of Oban's people. Housing for families and the elderly is desperately needed.

"I don't believe we should ignore the benefits of 37 new homes and associated jobs during the construction phase as well as the multi-million pound investment this will bring to the centre of Oban."
