Work to upgrade Glendevon Footbridge at Main Street, Winchburgh, is set to begin later this month.
Located on the B9080, the bridge carried the pedestrian footpath over the Union Canal.
A total of £75,000 will be invested in the scheme which will include steelwork repairs, the repainting of the structure as well as a complete replacement of the deck.
Work will commence on Monday 18 August and is expected to take around eight weeks to complete. During the project, the footbridge will be closed and temporary traffic lights will be installed on the adjacent road bridge to allow for pedestrian crossing facilities to be put in place.
Welcoming the scheme, Tom Conn, West Lothian Executive Councillor for the Environment, said: "This is a significant improvement project for Glendevon Footbridge. It is proposed to repaint the bridge in a gloss green colour which is the original colour of the bridge and is considered to best fit into the surroundings."
