A roads improvement scheme is set to commence tomorrow (7 August) in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang areas of South Lanarkshire.

From Thursday 7 August until Tuesday 12 August, carriageway resurfacing works will begin on Greenhill Road, Rutherglen, between Mill Street and Stonelaw Road. An alternative route will be in place for motorists via Stonelaw Road, Main Street and Mill Street.

Then, from Friday 15 August until Monday 18 August, sections of Bridge Street and Westburn Drive, Cambuslang, will close in order to to allow resurfacing improvements to be made at the roundabout on Clydeford Road. The local authority has said Bridge Street will close between Morriston Park Drive and Clydeford Road, while Westburn Drive will be closed between the roundabout at Cambuslang Golf Club and Clydeford Drive.

In addition, resurfacing work will also take place on Greenlees Road, between Vicarland Road and Main Street in Cambuslang, from Monday 18 August to Sunday 24 August. Again, a diversion will be in place for motorists.

Councillor Chris Thompson, Chair of South Lanarkshire Council's Enterprise Services Committee, said: "The road works are essential to improve the road surfaces at each of these locations. Unfortunately they cannot be done without some disruption to road users and we apologise for that.

"We would advise people to avoid the areas if at all possible during the closure periods, or if not to try and ensure they allow themselves extra time for their journey."
