A new wind farm has been proposed for Loch Ness.
It is understood Coriolis Energy is behind the scheme that would see 14 turbines constructed on the Dell Estate, near Whitebridge. New tracks would also be created on the site of the Monadhliath Mountains in order to provide access to the turbines.
The development is said to be close to a site SSE has suggested for a 67-turbine wind farm at Stronelairg. It is also nearby to a reservoir that serves SSE's Glendoe hydro scheme.
Work on the wind farm by Coriolis Energy would take approximately 18 months to complete, and would employ up to 90 people during the construction phase.
Initially, the developer wanted to construct 22 turbines, but it was forced to reduce the number due to concerns about the visual impact the wind farm would have on the surrounding area. The number of turbines was reduced to 16, and when the plans were on display in 2012, this reduction was welcomed. However, since those plans were made, a further two turbines have been removed.
In a statement, Harry Malyon, development director for Coriolis Energy, explained: "We hope that people will look at the detail of the application. We have taken a great deal of care over the design to minimise the effects. We welcome the planning process as it allows people to make their own minds up on the application."
The plans will now be studied by the Highland Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Water and local community councils.
