Essential upgrades are to be carried out to the sewer network in East King Street, Helensburgh, to address issues of flooding in the area.
The project, being carried out by Scottish Water, will see the installation of three new storm culverts at East End Park. It will include a spill chamber and pipelines from George Street and Kings Crescent, which will connect back into the existing network via a new sewer running from East King Street to East Princes Street.
It is understood a contractor will be on site from Monday 18 August to carry out preparatory works, ahead of construction works commencing soon after. The project is expected to last for approximately four months.
Jane McKenzie, Scottish Water's Regional Communities Manager, said: "We fully understand the inconvenience that flooding can cause and have worked hard to ensure that the short term measures we implemented such as installing smart bricks and providing sandbags were exactly that; short term. Through collaboration with Argyll and Bute Council we have worked hard to design this long term solution and can assure customers that they will see the benefits for many years to come."
Helensburgh Central Councillor Vivien Dance added: "This is a real good news story and I am delighted that Scottish Water has been able to prioritise this investment to resolve the flooding that has impacted on local families for many years.
"This is a significant capital project and we have managed to secure this as a result of the determination of Scottish Water to listen to the views of local people and the council and fund these essential major works. I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in the implementation phase of the final design."
A drop-in consultation will be held by Scottish Water to allow residents to find out more about the project. This will be held at Park Church, East King Street in Helensburgh on Thursday 4 August, from 4pm until 7pm.
