Compensation Following Delayed Works

Construction News Image
Dumfries and Galloway Council has said businesses with a "legitimate claim" can apply for compensation following delayed upgrade works in Dumfries town centre.

The £1m improvement scheme, which was focused around the Burns statue, was to be completed by mid-June; however, a new deadline for completing the works has been set at 8 August.

It is thought the original deadline was missed because of "unforeseen issues".

A spokesperson for Dumfries and Galloway Council is quoted as saying: "Land Engineering will continue to ensure pedestrian access is maintained to all premises and will open up those sections of new footways that are complete.

"Works were delayed as a result of unforeseen issues with physical obstructions and the condition of the existing drainage. Extra care has been required to locate, identify and deal with existing buried public utility services.

"These works have been necessary to ensure the project is delivered safely and to a high standard. Progress was also affected in making provision for the Guid Nychburris and the Queen's Baton Relay events."

They added that those who feel they have a "legitimate claim" can apply for compensation. Any bids will be assessed by loss adjusters for an assessment.
