Improvement works at Lawson Memorial Hospital are continuing to progress and are on time, NHS Highland has said.

The project currently ongoing at the site is being carried out in three phases. The first involves transporting the in-patient beds into the Cambusavie building which has been substantially completed. A majority of the work has been to the front of the building, with NHS Highland saying the bed-head service units are yet to be upgraded in the wards and rooms at the back of the premises. Elsewhere, a new palliative care room is now in use.

For the second phase of the project, the old wards will be converted and refurbished to create out-patient clinical rooms, a new physiotherapy gym, office space, a reception area and a sluice.

The third phase will involve the removal of the existing out-patients' building, which will then be turned into car-parking space.

Commenting on the plans, Ross Mackenzie, NHS Highland Sutherland District Manager, said: "Significant planning work has taken place with the community liaison group and staff on this phase, and we hope to start on site as soon as possible."
