Dumfries and Galloway Council's Housing Sub Committee has agreed to increase funding to the Trust Housing Association.

The additional money will allow much-needed sheltered housing provision for vulnerable elderly residents to continue to be delivered throughout the region. The announcement comes following discussions with tenants, representatives and the Trust Housing Association.

Colin Smyth, Chair of the Council's Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee explained: "Dumfries and Galloway faces huge challenges in the coming years as a result of our ageing population and falling budgets. However, we are absolutely committed to protecting the most vulnerable.

"It is therefore entirely right that the Council invests in essential services supporting older people in our communities and that is why we have agreed to increase the value of Trust Housing Association's contracts by £47,639 per year.

"As a listening Council we listened very carefully to the views of current residents. It is their views that have shaped our decision making process and we are very grateful to them for taking the time to meet with us. We hope that this decision provides the reassurance and certainty they were seeking about their services."
