New Cycle Path Opens In North Larnarkshire

A new cycle path constructed by North Larnarkshire Council has officially opened.

The 700 metre path runs from Auchinloch to Lenzie, and was funded by Sustrans and East Dunbartonshire Council.

The new path was widened, surfaced with tarmac and included the construction of a long embankment to raise the path level where it historically flooded, resulting in it being impassable for days at a time.

P6 and 7 pupils from Auchinloch Primary School have been involved in the project throughout and were on hand to see the finished path opened by local elected members and representatives from North Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire Councils, Lenzie Golf Club and Sustrans.

"This new path creates a scenic route between Auchinloch and Lenzie for cyclist and walkers, both for leisure and for people travelling to and from work in the area," said Councillor Stephanie Griffin, Vice Convener of the Planning and Transport Committee.

"It is the latest stretch in a network of paths around Strathkelvin that allows people to enjoy the outdoors, get fitter and greener by pedal power."

John Lauder, National Director of Sustrans Scotland, said: "Sustrans Scotland is very pleased to see this path being officially opened. We contributed funding towards its installation through our 'Community Links Programme' - a grant scheme run by Sustrans, on behalf of Transport Scotland, which provides funding for the creation of walking and cycling infrastructure for everyday journeys."
