Plans to construct a new whisky distillery on the banks of the River Clyde have been approved by Glasgow Council.

The proposals will see a £10m facility developed in the city, and includes a revamp of the pump house building which is located between the Riverside Museum and the Hydro Arena. It would house a museum and a new visitor centre. The new buildings being built would consist of a café, whisky tasting bar and the single malt Scotch whisky distillery.

With the local authority approving the plans, it is anticipated work will begin on site later this year, with a scheduled completion date of autumn 2015. Around 300 jobs will be created during the construction process, with 25 people being directly employed by the centre when it opens.

The project is being developed by a group of industry experts. Tim Morrison, owner of AD Rattray Scotch Whisky Company, is leading the project.
