Trump Unveils Turnberry Resort Plans

Donald Trump has unveiled his plans for one of Scotland's most famous golf courses, the Turnberry resort.

In April, the property tycoon confirmed he had purchased the golf course and hotel, located in Ayrshire, for an undisclosed sum. Arriving in Ayrshire on Wednesday (2 July), Trump told the media that he would be investing more than £100m on renovating the hotel as well as making changes to the golf course in time.

The 68-year-old also defended his decision to change the name of the resort to Trump Turnberry, denying that it was for his "ego".

He is quoted as saying: "I looked at the name change in the form of logos and it looks so incredible.

"One of the things that I think is good [about the Trump organisation] is we have tremendous success, our buildings are tremendously successful, so if you add it, I'm not doing it for ego, I'm doing it because it's going to make the place more successful.

"If I thought it was going to hurt Turnberry I wouldn't use the name but it's going to make this great resort much more successful than it has been and that's the primary reason I'm doing it. If I thought it would have a negative impact, I would not do it. I want to see incredible success for this resort beyond anything else."

The US billionaire added that he had asked some "very important" people in Scotland about the name and received positive feedback.

Turnberry Trump is the second golf course acquisition for the businessman. His resort at Menie, Aberdeenshire, opened in July 2012.
