September Opening For New Care Home

A new care home in Tranent, East Lothian, is to officially open this September.

The facility will provide 60 beds for some of the area's older population. It is understood that 40 beds will be direct re-provision of care home beds at the Fa'side Lodge and Greenfield Park care homes, while 20 beds will provide step-down care for residents currently delayed in hospital.

When residents of the two care homes move to the new centre, the units will close.

The local Council has described the new Tranent care facility as a "high quality, warm and welcoming environment", that will "meet a diverse range of needs for residents, patients and day services users on an integrated basis".

Councillor Donald Grant, spokesperson for Adult Wellbeing, said: "Our new care home in Tranent is a state-of-the-art facility, built to the latest specifications for older people's homes. Fa'side has done a sterling job over the years, and Greenfield Park too, but their day is really done.

"I am delighted to say that we have been able to deliver this new facility within budget and on time. It marks the delivery of a major commitment under our Older People's Strategy and I am very much looking forward to welcoming the home's first new residents in September."
