An additional £200,000 is to be spent on mitigation works, where needed, for a flood prevention scheme in Edzell, Angus Council has confirmed.

Welcoming the news, Councillor Jeanette Gaul, Communities Vice-Convener and Convener of the Flood Risk Management Group, said: "I am delighted the council has supported these additional resources for Edzell.

"We have seen first-hand the areas where investment is needed and as highlighted in the earlier reports, these are in drains and possibly culverts to better deal with flooding events."

The local authority is now assessing the need for prevention works in the round. A report is due to go before the Communities Committee in the autumn.

Councillor Gaul explained: "The money will be used for priority projects that have a proven need and evidence to support that need. We can't say we can stop flooding but we can assist with mitigating flooding.

"It is now essential that the report we have agreed to deliver comes forward with the assessment of what is needed. These resources are in addition to the £100,000 already agreed by the council so there is a substantial pot of money to invest in Edzell."
