Paisley Flats In £2.2m Facelift

A Paisley high rise block of flats has been given a £2.2m facelift, according to Renfrewshire Council.

Williamsburgh Court, which is home to 89 Renfrewshire Council tenants, has had new double glazed windows, a new pitched roof, a new entrance vestibule, balcony enclosures to all flats and new thermal over-cladding installed. The work is in addition to internal upgrading to the flats carried out in 2012. It was carried out as part of a £17.5m programme to revamp nine of the council’s multi-storey blocks.

Two high-rise blocks in Gallowhill, Gallowhill Court and Glencairn Court have already been regenerated and are now fully let. Further work is now beginning on four blocks in the Charleston area of Paisley.

Councillor Tommy Williams, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Housing and Community Safety Policy Board, said: "This is another major investment in the homes of Renfrewshire Council tenants. Over the last few years we have undertaken massive improvements to our housing stock both inside and out making people’s homes more modern, comfortable and energy efficient.

"Williamsburgh Court has been transformed and brought up to an excellent standard for those who live there. We’re delighted with the outcome and have had a really positive reaction from our tenants."

Keepmoat Regional Director Eamonn McGarvey said: "Keepmoat are extremely proud to have worked with Renfrewshire Council on the transformation of Williamsburgh Court, which will see residents benefitting from reduced energy bills. The cooperation and communication with residents and the local resident association has undoubtedly facilitated the successful delivery of this major project."

Robert Moore, Chairman of the Williamsburgh Court Tenants and Residents Association, said: "It’s a major improvement since before the work began. It’s like night and day. There was some inevitable disruption while the work was done but it was worth it and we hope the tenants will be happy with the outcome."
