Further Award Wins For SSE Hydro

The SSE Hydro has landed a second hat-trick of awards, it has been revealed.

The venue, which is Scotland's newest concert and event area, was awarded the Chairman's Award for Architecture at this year's Scottish Design Awards. The venue's designers, Foster + Partners and Arup, picked up the other two awards in the 'Lighting and Architecture', and 'Leisure/Culture Building or Project' categories.

Previously, the venue picked up a hat-trick of awards including 'Most Stylish Venue' at the Scottish Style Awards, and the highly-coveted Supreme Award presented by the Glasgow Institute of Architects. It also won the UK Sponsorship Award in the Entertainment and Event category for its title sponsorship of The SSE Hydro.

Commenting on the accolades, Peter Duthie, Chief Executive Officer for the Scottish Exhibition Centre and The SSE Hydro, said: "These awards are a fantastic achievement and testament to how well The SSE Hydro has been received. From the day we opened it has been a team effort and everyone involved should be warmly commended.

"With the arrival of both the Commonwealth Games next month and a full calendar of events throughout the year there will seldom be a quiet day. It's going to be a massive year for us."
