Timber Basin Development Welcomed

A housing development, located next to the Forth and Clyde Canal has been welcomed by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Timber Basin has been delivered by Queens Cross Housing Association with a total of 108 homes being built on the site. Of these properties, 73 will be made available for rent, with 35 flats being marketed for shared equity. The development is expected to be completed by mid-summer 2015.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "Through Scottish Government funding this historic site is to be regenerated, providing more than 100 new affordable homes for Glasgow.

"Housing is and will remain a priority for this Government. We are well on track to deliver our target of 30,000 new affordable homes over the life time of this Parliament and will continue to invest in new affordable homes such as the ones being built at Timber Basin.

"Regenerating areas like Timber Basin helps bring communities closer together and injects new life into an area. I look forward to seeing the site once complete."

Shona Stephen, Chief Executive of Queens Cross Housing Association, commented: "Timber Basin represents a large investment in high-quality, affordable flats and houses by Queens Cross Housing Association.

"This is a historic site and we're grateful to the Scottish Government for providing grants of £6.5m through Glasgow City Council for the build. When complete Timber Basin will bring the total number of new homes for rent or shared equity we've brought to the area in the past three years to 438."
