Remedial works for Ormiston Bowling Club are being proposed by East Lothian Council.
In a statement, the local authority confirmed it had agreed to purchase the club from its private owner. The move will secure the future of the sport for the local area.
There are now plans to restore bowling within the village and plans to prioritise the necessary remedial works are being put in place.
Council Leader Willie Innes said: "East Lothian has a very strong, proud tradition and culture of bowling across its towns and villages. The bowling facilities within the county have acted as an important part of community life, serving as a positive and healthy place for residents to participate recreationally within their communities.
"This has been the case historically for many years and remains an important part to many in their local lives young and old. East Lothian also has a very impressive record in bowls and our teams regularly perform well in national competitions. In addition East Lothian has a proud record of producing international bowlers and world champions.
"So I am delighted that we have finally been able to negotiate this purchase, which will make the bowling green available to the community once again. I am sure this news will be widely welcomed in Ormiston and by the bowling community in general."
It is understood the purchase price for Ormiston Bowling Club was £130,000.
