Councillor Jim McClung has been nominated to join the Dumfries and Galloway Renewable Energy Partnership Group.

The aim of the partnership is to maximise the economic and employment opportunities within the renewable energy sector for both businesses and communities, as well as providing a coordinated access point. There is also the opportunity for better understanding of the activities and priorities of the partnership group among those elected.

Commenting on the appointment, Councillor Colin Smyth, Chair of the Council's Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, said: "The appointment of Councillor McClung to the group is a positive step forward and it will keep elected members informed which in turn will inform our own decision making.

"The Scottish Government has committed to generating an equivalent of 100% of electricity demand from renewable sources by 2020, so all partners need to work together to achieve this ambitious target."
