Three pupils have been injured after a ceiling partially collapsed at a school in East Ayrshire.
The incident occurred at the New Cumnock Primary School on Monday morning.
The three children, who were in the classroom at the time, were checked by the school's first aider before being taken to hospital as a precaution. They are thought to have suffered minor injuries.
East Ayrshire Council has said the school will remain closed for the rest of the week to allow checks and emergency repair works to be carried out. The Early Childhood Centre remains open as normal.
A spokesperson for the Council said: "This follows an incident in a junior classroom where some ceiling tiles and plaster fell to the floor. Closure is to allow further investigation work to continue.
"Parents were immediately informed, in order that they could take their children away for the rest of the day.
"As always, the safety of our children and members of staff is paramount. Necessary checks will be carried out over the next few days and council officers are set to review the position on Wednesday."
It is understood the school has undergone extensive refurbishment work in recent years.
