New Council Housing For Turriff

Construction News Image
Almost £2m is to be set aside to build new council homes in Turriff, Aberdeenshire.

It is understood that three apartment buildings will be constructed on the site of the current Erroll Court Sheltered Housing complex, after Formartine Area Committee approved the plans last week.

Erroll Court, which is the oldest Sheltered Housing scheme within Aberdeenshire Council's housing stock, is in need of significant modernisation, the local authority has said.

In addition to the above, Councillors also approved the use of current unoccupied homes within Erroll Court to be used in the short-term, as temporary homes for teachers who are unable to fund suitable accommodation. This move would be subject to the approval of the tenants who are currently living in the sheltered housing complex. Currently, there are nine tenants residing in Erroll Court, but the housing service is continuing to work with them to find a new location that is suitable for their needs.

Councillor Rob Merson, Chair of Formartine Area Committee, said: "Property services were commissioned to undertake a feasibility study into the various options open to the Housing service for the Erroll Court sheltered housing scheme.

"These options were presented to the Area Committee and replacement with general needs new build housing was considered to be the best value use of the site and the most cost effective means of more effectively meeting local housing needs, with significant demand for two-bedroom houses."
