Midlothian Council's Cowan Court has been nominated for a top prize from the Scottish Home Awards 2014.
The flagship extra care housing complex opened in September 2013, and has now been shortlisted as a finalist for 'Senior Living Development of the Year'.
The building in Penicuik was constructed in a way as to promote independent living by residents, and was designed in a dementia-friendly layout. The local authority said the judges were impressed with the 32 self-contained flats; of which 28 are one-bedroom and two two-bedroom flats at the housing complex. Other highlights included the development's energy saving benefits, and the communal hub facilities which include a café and hairdresser for use by the whole community.
Councillor Owen Thompson, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "Well done to the team behind Cowan Court for being nominated as a finalist in another top award.
"As a council we are dedicated to providing good, affordable, quality accommodation in the heart of our local community.
"A lot of hard work has gone in to the design and building of Cowan Court and I'm delighted that it has once again, been recognised as a flagship building right in the heart of Penicuik."
The winner of the award will be announced on Thursday 19 June.
