£1.5m Housing Development Opened

A new £1.5m housing development in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, has been officially opened.

Housing Minister Margaret Burgess attended the ceremony.

The development, located at Chantinghall Gardens in Hamilton, contains a total of 13 properties. The homes are available for rent to older people and mark the completion of two years of work by Hanover and the local authority.

Each property also benefits from enhanced security features, and is installed with passive solar gain technologies, such as glazed sun spaces.

Housing Minister Margaret Burgess said: "I was delighted to open this development for older people, which has benefited from half a million in Scottish Government funding. These high quality amenity homes are an excellent example of good partnership working.

"Older people are a vital part of the community and developments such as Chantinghall Gardens allow individuals to remain within their local community while catering for their specific needs."

Bunty Fowler, chairperson of Hanover, added: "This is a partnership project between Hanover and South Lanarkshire Council and a lot of hard work went into the planning.

"Hanover has an excellent working relationship with South Lanarkshire Council, going back many years and, as a result, in addition to this new development we have been able to provide five very sheltered housing developments (two in Hamilton), two sheltered developments and 24 amenity properties."
