An agreement has been reached on a site for the new Kelso High School, the Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has confirmed.
According to the BBC, the deal was reached with land owners Lothin Estates earlier this week, and will see the £12.8m school constructed at Nethershot on Angraflat Road.
Now that the land has been secured, the next stage of the project is to submit a planning application.
It is understood that this will occur within the next few weeks, while a community drop-in session will also be organised to keep locals updated on the development.
Welcoming the news, Councillor Ron Smith, Executive Member for Planning and Environment, said: "The land purchase agreement is an important announcement which brings a new Kelso High School a step closer.
"I am pleased to see the project progressing and look forward to a brand new facility which will provide an improved learning environment for generations of Kelso children."
