Forth Energy has confirmed it has pulled out of plans to develop three major biomass projects in Scotland.
In a statement released on Thursday, the energy company said it was no longer continuing with renewable energy projects in Grangemouth and Rosyth.
Both of the projects had received approval from the Scottish Government and Forth Energy is now said to be looking at new backers for the schemes.
Plans for a third plant, to be located at the Port of Dundee, has been withdrawn altogether following an objection from Dundee City Council.
The announcement comes after Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) said earlier this week that it was to cut back on its renewable energy projects. Forth Energy is a joint venture between SSE Ltd and Forth Ports.
