Town Centre Consultations Launched

Proposals for the future of two town centres in North Lanarkshire have been unveiled.

The plans, for Motherwell and Cumbernauld, will now be on display to allow residents and local businesses to share their views on the partnership proposals.

The draft Town Centre Frameworks and Action Plans have been compiled following extensive consultations, including public meetings and workshops, surveys, town centre health checks and drop-in sessions. The Framework outlines principles to shape growth and change in the town centres, while the Action Plan provides a base for partnership working to improve the environment, facilities and services in each town.

Convener of the Planning and Transportation Committee, Councillor James Coyle, said: "Town centres are a vital part of the local economy, as they provide jobs, amenities, homes and services for many people.

"They are facing tough economic challenges and to survive everyone involved needs to use their local knowledge and work together to create a viable future for our town centres.

"With input from residents, community groups and traders we have produced positive Frameworks and Action Plans for Motherwell and Cumbernauld, and we now want to hear what people think.

"It's important that as many people as possible take part in this consultation, so that we produce a final plan that will meet the needs of all those who use our town centres."

The deadline for comments on the consultation is 4.15pm on Friday 30 May.
