A new report has revealed that Scottish Water is among the top performing companies for roadwork re-instatements.

In 2012/13, the utility provider achieved a 92% compliance rate. This was the second highest rate of the 12 firms assessed by the Roads Authorities and Utilities Committee (Scotland) (RAUCS), and compares with the average for all utilities of 83%.

RAUCS published the report after carrying out its eighth National Coring Programme, which evaluates a representative sample of re-instatements throughout Scotland.

Mark McEwen, Scottish Water's General Manager for Customer Service, said: "Scottish Water is a major public utility, providing essential services to the people of Scotland, and in doing so we're responsible for the maintenance of vast networks of both water pipes and sewers much of which is under the busiest roads and streets across Scotland.

"That means we carry out a significant amount of work on our assets, investing around £500 million per annum, to provide the best services for our customers. Sometimes this results in roadworks, and we work to ensure that we return the site to the best possible condition once we've completed the work.

"We are pleased that the National Coring Programme has highlighted improving performance from Scottish Water, and we are working hard to build on these findings for the benefits of everyone who uses Scotland's roads in the years ahead."
