Graham Construction has been selected to deliver the £10m redevelopment of the National Library of Scotland (NLS).
The project will involve the phased recladding and redevelopment of the iconic Edinburgh building. Located at the corner of Causewayside and Salisbury Place in the capital, the building itself is not listed, but is situated within the northwest corner of the Blacket Conservation Area.
Causewayside is the largest property within the NLS estate and comprises more than 19,000m2 of floorspace over seven levels – two of which are below ground.
The building was built in two phases, with Phase 1 being completed in 1989 and Phase 2 in 1995.
Existing defects in the building have led to air and water leakage, which pose a danger to the Library's National Collection.
Work on the site is expected to commence in June 2014 and is scheduled for completion in 2017.
