Blackadder Bridge To Undergo Repairs

Scottish Borders Council is to undertake masonry repair and refurbishment works to Blackadder Bridge.

Work on the bridge, which is located on the Mount Pleasant to Duns Road stretch of the A6112 in Berwickshire, will commence on Monday 3 March. However, temporary traffic control will be in place from Monday 24 February to allow scaffolding to be erected at the structure.

The project will see the deteriorating masonry spandrel wall on the downstream side of the bridge taken down and strengthen, as well as repairs to the accident damage.

It is thought the work will take around eight weeks to complete.

Due to the extent of the works being carried out, it will be necessary to close the bridge to traffic for the duration of the programme. Diversion routes will be in place for motorists.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, Executive Member for Roads and Infrastructure, said: "We appreciate that the closure will result in significant inconvenience to local residents, businesses and road users in general and apologise in advance.

"However, this is an important programme of works and we request public co-operation during the closure period."
